In the last twenty years, we have seen a rapid growth in teaching Chinese as a foreign language (CFL) worldwide. As we entered the second decade of the 21st Century, CFL Teaching needs to be further refined and the area of Chinese for Academic Purposes (CAP) bears a particular importance.

FREE China Business Masterclass Taster

In February 2020 we opened the doors to one of our Business Masterclass sessions, which are part of our Executive Programme Chinese Language and Culture for Business (CLCB).

On the occasion of the Chinese New Year of the Pig, CIBL supported and helped with the New Year Celebration events at the Headquarters of the Bank of England on 19th February 2019.

Employees at the Bank of England celebrated the New Year with a range of activities including Chinese cultural talks and musical recitals prepared by LSE Students, Chinese New Year song learning prepared by Dr. Xiang Hua, UK Director of CIBL, and also tea tasting, Chinese calligraphy, introductions of Chinese zodiac.

On 10 November, CIBL helped to host a "Shangdong Business, Culture, Tourism" event at the House of Commons in the Parliament. This is the first promotion event combing culture, tourism, and business supported by Hanban, China.  It attracted huge interests around UK and 150 guests attended this event.

On 17 May 2018, Prof Liu from Tsinghua University visited LSE as a guest speaker.  He led the audience to review how Chinese ancestors formed their view of time and space, how the culture of Chinese calendar illustrated the origin of Chinese civilisation and shaped the biggest oriental nation. The event will be in both English and Chinese (with interpretation).  The title of his lecture was "The Idea of Time in Ancient China and The Embodied Characteristics of Chinese People’’.  It was a full-house event with participants from LSE and the general public. They asked many interesting questions on this topic.
