Chinese New Year at Barclays

On 28th January 2020, Confucius Institute for Business London was invited by Barclays London to organise several workshops to celebrate the Year of the Rat, including Chinese calligraphy and Chinese paper cutting.

The annual Brighton Chinese New Year celebration was hosted on 25th January 2020 by the charity, China Education Development Program (CEDP). This event consisted of 3 major parts, China Business Forum, Chinese New Year show and Chinese culture workshops.

2020 Academic Steering Committee Meeting (II) and Work Coordination Meeting Successfully Held

The meeting heard CIBL’s 2019-2020 work and financial report, as well as its 2020-2021 work plan. The participants put forward many constructive suggestions for the future development of CIBL, including how to continue supporting the development and operation of the Confucius Institute in terms of funds and personnel.

Public Lecture: Practical Wisdom of Confucianism

On 15th March 2019, several CIBL staff attended a public lecture by Professor Lai Chen, titled, "The Practical Wisdom of Confucianism". This lecture was chaired by Professor Yilin Hou (China Director of LCI, SOAS) and interpreted by Professor Jinghui Wang (China Director, CIBL LSE).

Deloitte Chinese New Year Celebrations

On 26th February 2019, CIBL and Deloitte London co-hosted the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration. CIBL provides Business Chinese language and culture courses for the London business community and has established good relationships with business partners represented by Deloitte.

Bank of England Chinese New Year Celebrations

On the occasion of the Chinese New Year of the Pig, CIBL supported and helped with the New Year Celebration events at the Headquarters of the Bank of England on 19th February 2019.

Employees at the Bank of England celebrated the New Year with a range of activities including Chinese cultural talks and musical recitals prepared by LSE Students, Chinese New Year song learning prepared by Dr. Xiang Hua, UK Director of CIBL, and also tea tasting, Chinese calligraphy, introductions of Chinese zodiac.

British Library Chinese New Year Celebrations

On 19th February 2019, CIBL held the Chinese Lantern Festival celebration on the second floor of the British Library. CIBL held Business Chinese language and culture courses regularly and have made outstanding contributions to helping London business people learn Chinese language and understand Chinese culture.

JP Morgan Lantern Festival

On 05th and 12th February of 2019, CIBL and JP Morgan (AsPIRE) held a Chinese New Year event to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Pig in the Canary Wharf and Embankment offices. The AsPIRE team is focused on cultural promotion to all colleagues, regardless of heritage, and advancing the Firm’s commitment to diversity and community involvement.

Barclays Chinese New Year Celebrations

On 5th February 2019, CIBL is proud to host the Chinese New Year celebration in the Headquarters of Barclays bank, one of the biggest banks in Europe, drawing over 100 staff from the bank into the cultural show.

Dulwich Courses and Careers Convention

On 2th February 2019, Dulwich College invited major universities and companies from all over UK to introduce their undergraduate programmes as well as career development opportunities for GCSE students. LSE CIBL ran a workshop on Confucius Institute Scholarships (CIS) to help pupils, particularly those who are learning GCSE Mandarin and their parents learn about the scholarship opportunities.

The annual business Chinese teacher training was held at Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL) during 6th to 8th September 2019. 26 trainees from London, Cambridge, Edinburg, Norwich, Brighton in UK, and Netherland, China, Taiwan participated.

In April 2019, something exciting took place in the Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL) at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Our staff embarked on a journey to participate in a global cultural project, “Tourism & Culture Stations in Confucius Institutes”.

Visit by the Delegation Led by Tsinghua Vice President Ji Junmin

On the 20th of June, 2019, Vice-President Ji Junmin led Tsinghua University delegation to visit CIBL. As a representative of the cooperative university, Ji inquired about the operation and development of the Confucius Institute and praised the Institute for the tremendous achievements it has made.

Friendly Shandong: Business, Culture, Tourism

On 10 November, CIBL helped to host a "Shangdong Business, Culture, Tourism" event at the House of Commons in the Parliament. This is the first promotion event combing culture, tourism, and business supported by Hanban, China. It attracted huge interests around UK and 150 guests attended this event.

CLCB Business Networking

On 25 June 2018, CIBL hosted the 1st event of the summer event series to introduce our new intake for part-time executive programme, Chinese Language and Culture for Business (CLCB) in October. Public Seminar

On 17 May 2018, Prof Liu from Tsinghua University visited LSE as a guest speaker. He led the audience to review how Chinese ancestors formed their view of time and space, how the culture of Chinese calendar illustrated the origin of Chinese civilisation and shaped the biggest oriental nation. The event will be in both English and Chinese (with interpretation). The title of his lecture was "The Idea of Time in Ancient China and The Embodied Characteristics of Chinese People’’. It was a full-house event with participants from LSE and the general public. They asked many interesting questions on this topic.

House of Lords Reception

On the evening of 19 February 2018, the Confucius Institute for Business London hosted the Spring Festival reception in the House of Lords, celebrating the Spring Festival with the students and supporters of CIBL.

Chinese New Year
