Sustainable natural resources
This area of research is focused on the economic and environmental implications, along with the policy and practical challenges, of ensuring the natural environment and resources are sustainably used and maintained. Our research is interdisciplinary and global in scope, examining international resource supply chains and their macroeconomic and financial implications, and regional and local challenges, including in emerging markets and developing economies. Issues we examine cut across environment and development, encompassing the physical and social dimensions of scarcity, access, variability and shocks in natural resources, including critical materials and resources and their role in the low-carbon transition. Our work recognises the interdependent nature of development: that economic and sustainable growth, development and poverty reduction are all linked and necessary for addressing global and local environmental challenges, and underpin human wellbeing.
