Sustainable development
Sustainable development is about pursuing economic growth and development in a way that is less harmful to the planet’s people and natural environment than common models of development. It aims to meet the needs of the present without undermining the ability of future generations to meet their needs. The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, which were agreed by all member states, set out a blueprint for achieving a more sustainable world and emphasise the importance of tackling challenges such as poverty and hunger alongside efforts to fight climate change and environmental degradation.
Our work in this area includes a focus on how major global economies can pursue clean and inclusive economic growth. We also explore the role of finance in facilitating sustainable development, particularly in emerging markets and developing economies.
