Water security and behaviour
While water is essential to humans’ everyday existence, access to water varies dramatically and water can also be a threat: poor water quality can make people seriously ill, while floods are among the most damaging and deadly climate-related hazards. Climate change has an impact on water security through the increased potential for floods and droughts, and through growing water scarcity in some locations.
A major focus of our work in this area has been on water security issues in Africa. The Institute is currently a partner in the BASIN (Behavioural Adaptation for water Security and INclusion) project, which aims to draw insights from behavioural approaches to improve decision-making for more effective and equitable adaptation in policy and practice.
