About

Sangeeth is a Policy Fellow (India and ASEAN) at the Grantham Research Institute at LSE and holds a joint appointment with the Just Transition Finance Lab and the Stern team.

Background

Sangeeth was previously a research associate in the climate policy department at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) working on industrial decarbonisation and climate finance. Before that he held roles at the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) working on effectiveness of energy efficiency polices conducting a quantitative meta-analysis;  Apricum Cleantech Advisory in Berlin supporting European clients in PV rooftop, industrials, PV manufacturing and hydrogen: the Council on Energy, Environment and Water in New Delhi where he worked on reports covering financing thermal decommission, energy efficient appliances and the financial risk of renewables in India. He is currently undertaking an MSc in Finance (part time) at the LSE and holds a master’s degree in public policy from the Hertie School.

This study evaluates three policy approaches governing the transition to a climate neutral basic materials sector – (i) polluter pays, (ii) dedicated policies targeting both production and use, and (iii) green demand – to assess their political viability in the context of European policy in a fragmented world.
