About

Maria João Pimenta is a Policy Analyst and Research Adviser to Professor Nicholas Stern, contributing to research on the economics of climate change and sustainable development. She joined the Grantham Research Institute in December 2024.

Background

Maria João holds a research master’s in Philosophy and Economics from the Erasmus University Rotterdam and an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Edinburgh. During her undergraduate studies, she co-founded Economists for Future, a global initiative advocating for a better economics of climate change. Prior to joining Grantham, alongside her master’s, she was an economics tutor at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, teaching pluralist economic perspectives on climate change.
