David Shukman
David Shukman is a Visiting Professor in Practice at the Grantham Research Institute at the LSE. A journalist, speaker and consultant with a focus on climate communication, he is now writing a book on adaptation.
Background
David Shukman was the BBC’s first Science Editor, a post he held from 2012-2021, leading the corporation’s coverage of environmental issues. He joined the BBC in 1983 and reported on The Troubles in Northern Ireland before being appointed Defence Correspondent (1987-1995), Europe Correspondent based in Brussels (1995-1999), World Affairs Correspondent (1999-2003) and Environment & Science Correspondent (2003-2012). He pioneered the use of live broadcasting from climate frontlines such as the Arctic and Antarctic and reported from a number of the UN COPs starting with COP11 in 2005.
David left the BBC in 2021 and has since been working as an independent consultant speaker, journalist and broadcaster. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at Oxford University.
