This event is being held as part of London Climate Action Week

Climate adaptation remains critically underfunded and the role of the private sector in addressing the finance gap is hotly contested. This event, run in collaboration with the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance and Mercy Corps, will share different perspectives, bringing together varied experiences and insights from the international development sector, investors and governments.

Context

  • Many questions remain about how to reach the $1.3 trillion objective set out by the Baku to Belém Roadmap. New evidence and insights developed by the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance shine a spotlight on the potential for the private sector to deliver adaptation finance and provides a reality check on opportunities and challenges.
  • Climate change poses a series of significant short, medium and long-term challenges for investors. The Institutional Investors Group, part of the Climate Financial Risk Forum, is leading work to help investors to respond to challenges and integrate management of climate-related risks and opportunities into investment processes.
  • Finance Ministers hold the keys to accelerating climate action. They know most clearly the risks posed by climate change and recognize how taking action could unlock trillions in investments and create millions of jobs. The Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action brings together fiscal and economic policymakers from over 90 countries in leading the global climate response. Guidance and insights developed by the coalition are paving the way for an increased focus on adaptation finance, including engagement with the private sector.
