Responding to the publication of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee report on wildfires, Emma Howard Boyd CBE, Chair of the National Heat Risk Commission and Professor in Practice at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, said: “The UK’s record-breaking heat and wildfires have shown how climate risks are escalating and how urgently our preparedness must catch up.

“The Prime Minister’s wildfire summit must be a turning point: bringing all four nations together around a clear, coordinated plan to strengthen prevention, improve emergency response and support communities on the frontline. We cannot afford to wait until next summer to act. We must turn this year’s lessons into practical measures, clear accountability and lasting resilience, preparing for more wildfires, and the growing risks to people’s health from extreme heat.”
