A world-leading centre for policy-relevant research and training on climate change and the environment

Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment

A world-leading centre for policy-relevant research and training on climate change and the environment, bringing together international expertise on economics, finance, geography, the environment, international development and political economy.

International work

The Grantham Research Institute has an international outlook, exploring how to tackle climate change and other environmental challenges facing our world. The Institute’s research is orientated around two major policy frameworks currently driving global action on climate change: the implementation of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, and the Sustainable Development Goals

At the same time, the Institute – as part of two international consortiums – is working alongside communities already experiencing the effects of climate change to help enhance their resilience. These incldue the Pathways to resilience in semi-arid economies  (PRISE) and Uncertainty reduction in models for understanding development (UMFULA) projects.

The Institute is also home to the Climate Change Laws of the World database, which contains details of climate change legislation and policies in 196 countries.

UK policy work

A key strand of our work is focused on engaging decision-makers in the UK on policy issues related to climate change and the environment.

The Institute produces policy analysis drawing on research from both the Institute and beyond, with the aim of communicating clear, evidence-based insights through policy reports and briefs. These span a broad sweep of issues including energy policy, sustainable finance, and clean growth, among others.

The Institute’s engagement with decision-makers ranges across government departments and agencies, and includes active participation in consultations and parliamentary inquires. More information on our UK Policy can be found here.

Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy (CCCEP)
