This section in the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report, Working Group II on Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability synthesizes the state of knowledge on monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of adaptation to climate change. It outlines what literature says on the purposes, approaches and indicators used for adaptation. In an advancement over the previous IPCC Fifth Assessment Report from 2014, the new report presents empirical evidence of M&E systems developed and operated by countries to assess adaptation progress. The section concludes with a brief account on evaluation of implemented adaptation and on how M&E can facilitate learning.
