About

Umut Budak is a Research Assistant at the TPI Global Climate Transition Centre (TPI Centre). His work focuses on evaluating and modelling net zero pathways, with experience across key sectors including power, transport and buildings. He has led the development of net zero scenarios for local authorities and delivered decarbonisation strategies for SMEs across the United Kingdom, applying quantitative modelling and systems analysis to support evidence-based climate transition planning.

Background

Umut holds an MSc in Energy Systems from the University of Oxford, where he examined the interdisciplinary challenges of decarbonising energy systems across technical, economic and policy dimensions. He also holds a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Brunel University London, which provides a strong foundation in analytical and first-principles problem solving.

Research interests

  • Climate and energy system modelling
  • Applications of artificial intelligence to net zero analysis
  • Net zero transitions and energy market dynamics
  • Investment in the low carbon transition
  • Energy sector decarbonisation
