Responding to the Met Office’s announcement that 2022 is likely to be the UK’s warmest year on record, Bob Ward, policy and communications director at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science, said: “This is further evidence of the growing impact of climate change in the UK. We experienced a record-breaking heatwave this summer, which killed more than 3000 people across the country and triggered terrifying wildfires. These impacts will continue to grow until the world cuts annual emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases to net zero. Delaying or abandoning the UK’s target for net zero would undermine global efforts and lead to even more death and destruction across our nation.”
