Commenting on the Copernicus announcement about the temperature in 2025, Bob Ward, Policy and Communications Director at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science, said: “These measurements show that the global average temperature in 2025 was just less than 1.5 Celsius degrees above pre-industrial level and provide clear evidence that the world is perilously close to breaching a threshold beyond which many climate scientists expect severe risks to occur.

“Governments must continue to face the reality of climate change and not follow the irrational approach adopted by the Trump Administration of pretending that climate change does not exist. Temperatures will continue to rise until the world reaches net zero emissions of greenhouse gases by making the transition away from fossil fuels.”
