Grantham Institute responds to Labour’s Green Prosperity Plan

Bob Ward, Policy and Communications Director at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science, said: “It is disappointing that Labour have apparently caved in to pretty feeble criticism from a Government that itself is not investing anywhere near enough to secure a pathway to sustainable economic growth.”
“While it is good to see some further details of Labour’s Green Prosperity Plan, it is disappointing that it has scaled back the ambition of its planned levels of investment. The Plan will boost action on cutting emissions, but it lacks any investments in tackling our vulnerability to climate change impacts, biodiversity loss or environmental degradation, including air and water pollution.
“This weaker level of investment will also provide less of a boost to our productivity and growth, and will still leave the UK trailing the other G7 countries. This abandonment of ambitious investment plans may also undermine the confidence of private investors.”
