Earth Capital Nexus welcomes Emily McKenzie as Visiting Professor in Practice

Earth Capital Nexus at LSE’s Grantham Research Institute is delighted to announce the appointment of Emily McKenzie as Visiting Professor in Practice.

Emily is Technical Director at the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), where she has helped shape the global standards businesses and financial institutions now use to understand and report their impacts and dependencies on nature. She has spent two decades integrating nature into policy, finance, economics and decision-making. Most recently, she led the analytical team behind the independent, global Dasgupta Review on the Economics of Biodiversity, based at HM Treasury. She spent a decade with WWF’s Global Science team, where she helped establish and lead the Natural Capital Project at Stanford University, and was seconded to the Capitals Coalition to help develop the Natural Capital Protocol. Earlier in her career, based at the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, she helped design the Environmental Land Management scheme, a major reform of English agricultural policy.

Emily McKenzie said of her appointment: “I am delighted to be joining the Earth Capital Nexus team at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science as a Visiting Professor in Practice.

The role provides an opportunity to benefit the ongoing practical work at TNFD on nature-related risk assessment and disclosure. I am also excited to contribute to wider research and policy priorities, such as those highlighted by the Dasgupta Review on the Economics of Biodiversity. These include improving the way macroeconomic models reflect the dependence of economies on nature and supporting further action by Ministries of Finance

This new role will sit alongside, and complement, my ongoing work as Technical Director at the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), where my responsibilities remain unchanged. I look forward to working with the Earth Capital Nexus team on its important work to advance decision-useful approaches that reflect the deep connections between nature and the economy and financial system.”
