The role of NGOs in driving climate laws

Legal Voices for the Future presents the September 2025 Knowledge Session on The role of NGOs in driving climate laws, hosted in partnership with the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change & the Environment and led by LVF Deputy Chair Dominika Leitane.
Presentation
The session will begin with a brief introduction to the world of NGOs: what they are, how they function, and how the law – and lawyers – fit into their purpose-driven work.
Panel interview
To explore the topic in all of its exciting diversity, we will be joined by a panel of legal professionals who work within, or with, a wide variety of legal NGOs:
- David Kay is the Legal Director at Opportunity Green
- Sophie Marjanac is the Director of Legal Strategy at The Polluter Pays Project
- Guillermo Miranda Garcia is a Senior Associate at The Chancery Lane Project
- Ricardo Gama is a Partner in the human rights and public law department of Leigh Day
The panel discussion will cover the role that NGOs can play in tackling climate change, the different tools used by legal professionals in climate-focused work, the underlying strategies and theories of change, and the practical aspects of working at legal NGOs.
Creative content
Each of our monthly knowledge sessions will include a small group discussion of ‘creative content’. This month, we will consider an immersive art installation ‘pink & green’ by contemporary artist Rory Pilgrim. You can watch the video tour of the installation here.
