Taxing Energy Use: A graphical analysis of OECD energy use and taxation
Synopsis: The Grantham Research Institute hosted this policy seminar by the OECD. Michelle Harding, Economist at the OECD, presented the key findings of the report “Taxing Energy Use: A Graphical Analysis of OECD Energy Use and Taxation”, which provides a systematic, comparative analysis of the structure and level of energy taxation in each OECD country, highlighting the patterns and incoherencies in effective tax rates on energy seen across the OECD. She was joined by Samuela Bassi and David Grover from GRI, who shared insights from their own research on the impact of green taxes on UK businesses and the distributional impact of the UK Feed-in Tariff scheme.
