Sustainable Development Goals: what's the score?
Legal Voices for the Future presents the September 2026 Knowledge Session on Sustainable Development Goals: what’s the score? hosted in partnership with the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment.
The session, happening on 28 September 2026 (Monday) at 6.30pm, aims to (re)familiarise participants with the SDGs, their genesis, consider the progress (or lack thereof) in their attainment, and explore some of the issues, debates and criticisms surrounding them. It will ask whether the SDGs are fit for purpose; if so, how and who should be responsible for implementing them; if not, what the alternatives might be.

A decade ago saw the formal enactment of the UN’s Agenda 2030 and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (adopted by all UN member states in 2015). Ten years on, this Knowledge Session aims to (re)familiarise the audience with the SDGs, discuss their genesis, the progress (or lack thereof) in their attainment, and explore some of the issues, debates and criticisms surrounding them. It will ask whether the SDGs are fit for purpose; and, if so, how and who should be responsible for implementing them – particularly in light of current geopolitical tensions. If, however, the SDGs themselves are not adequate to address today’s planetary and social crises, it queries whether and how they should be revised.
Panel discussion
Each of the monthly knowledge sessions will include an interview with guest practitioners/ academics who will bring the topic of the presentation ‘to life’.
Lucia will be joined by leading voices in the sustainability space: Professor Louis Kotzé, Chair of the Law Group and Professor of Law at Wageningen University; Nidhi Nagabhatla, UN University Senior Official and Program Lead; and Patrick Linighan, Chief Sustainability Officer at global law firm Clyde & Co.
