Catalysing finance for a resilient future

We are delighted to invite you to the launch of Earth Capital Nexus, a bold new initiative led by Professor Nicola Ranger under the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment and the Global School of Sustainability at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

The costs of climate disasters and environmental degradation are rising and planetary boundaries are increasingly being breached, yet finance is still insufficient to meet climate and biodiversity goals. In partnership with business, finance, IFIs and government, Earth Capital Nexus works to unlock high-quality, accessible finance to build a resilient, sustainable and inclusive global economy for all—strengthening the resilience of societies and vulnerable people while also enhancing growth, investment and competitiveness. We advance this transition through developing practical analytics and solutions, founded on world-leading science and economic research, to embed natural capital and environmental risk into decision making, advance risk finance and catalyse innovation in policy, business models and financial products to radically scale sustainable investment.

Natural capital includes the world’s essential natural assets—such as forests, water, soil, a stable climate, biodiversity and critical minerals—that underpin our economies and wellbeing. Valuing natural capital in decision making and managing risk is essential for stability, security and growth. We focus from international to country and business level – from advanced economies to EMDEs – and the complex value-chains that interlink them.

Our inaugural event will bring together senior leaders from across finance, business, government, academia, and civil society for a timely discussion on aligning natural capital, growth, and finance. Together, we will explore the emerging opportunities where Earth and financial capital converge to shape a sustainable future.
