Rowan Halstead Yorkshire Party Email: rowan.halstead@yorkshireparty.org.uk Facebook Website | “Do I agree with net zero? Yes. Do I believe we will achieve net zero by 2030, or even by 2050? No—not on our current trajectory. However, with further investment and advances in technology, it is possible—potentially within my lifetime. Hull, East Yorkshire, and the Humber region as a whole are already global leaders in green energy. Just look at our record-breaking offshore wind farms and world-class manufacturing facilities, such as Siemens Gamesa. We must use this as a springboard to demonstrate what is achievable. Net zero is coming, and as a region, we are well-positioned to benefit across the board. Businesses, workers, families, and the environment all stand to gain from this commitment. While the rest of the country—and indeed the world—may be slow to act, my ambition is for this region to become the first truly net-zero region in the UK. By collaborating with institutions such as the University of Hull to drive research and development in new technologies, we can ensure these innovations and start-ups remain rooted in the region. By working alongside our colleges and training providers, we can build a workforce capable of delivering this vision. And by engaging with our existing industries and attracting external investment, we can place Hull and East Yorkshire firmly on the map for green growth. This is about being bold and brave—qualities I strongly represent. That means being willing to try new approaches. The UK is already exploring small-scale nuclear reactors. Nuclear power has been shown to be green, safe, and sustainable, and I am fully committed to bringing it to our region. As the home of the Energy Estuary, we cannot ignore our current environmental impact. But we must ensure it becomes a platform for future growth—both for our people and for the wider green economy.“ This information has been verified by the candidate. Yes/No |
