About

Ritwika is a policy professional with experience in international regulatory and standards cooperation, climate and energy policy, and climate science. She is particularly interested in governance approaches that are globally aligned while remaining practical and effective at national, regional, and local levels, and in understanding the role of public and private actors in enabling this balance. Ritwika is currently based at the British Standards Institution (BSI), where her work focuses on the interaction between standards, assurance, and regulation, and on how these systems can be modernised to support the scaling of effective and resilient climate governance approaches.

Background

Ritwika has worked across climate policy, research, and international cooperation. She has held roles in the UK Government, including at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and the Natural Environment Research Council, as well as in international organisations such as the OECD. Ritwika holds a PhD in Climate Science from the University of Oxford and an MSci in Geology from Imperial College London. Her doctoral research examined how Earth’s climate behaved during past warm periods such as the Cretaceous Period, using evidence from the geological record to better understand the interactions and feedback between the carbon and hydrological cycles under changing climatic conditions.
