Thea Philip

Thea is a Policy Fellow in the Earth Capital Nexus (ECN) research and engagement initiative led by Professor Nicola Ranger. Her work focuses on activities to advance sustainable value chains, trade, and investment flows, as well as global architecture, norms, and standards for natural capital.
Background
Prior to joining the Grantham Research Institute, Thea was a Director at Pollination where she led the procurement of a public-facing legal opinion to clarify the scope of directors’ duties with respect to nature-related risk under UK company law. She delivered nature capacity building workshops to company boards and investors, developed nature strategies for financial institutions and corporates, and conducted transaction due diligence for nature-based investments. Additionally, she has experience advising on carbon and biodiversity markets, including as the Demand Working Group Rapporteur for the International Advisory Panel on Biodiversity Credits.
Thea started her career as a commercial lawyer focused on transactional and regulatory matters related to energy, environment, and planning.
She holds a Master of Philosophy in Environmental Policy from the University of Cambridge, as well as a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (International Relations) from Bond University.
