Institute responds to Climate Change Committee report
This statement was issued in response to the UK Climate Change Committee’s ‘Progress in reducing emissions – 2025 report to Parliament’ which was published on 25 June 2025.
Bob Ward, Policy and Communications director at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science, said: “This report makes clear that the UK is making progress in cutting emissions, undermining the false claims by the Conservatives and Reform that achieving net zero is impossible. It also emphasises that the cost of electricity has been driven up by natural gas, not renewables.
“Unfortunately some politicians and media organisations are spreading falsehoods about energy costs, and their misinformation campaign is now a growing threat to the achievement of net zero.”
