Alina Averchenkova presented at the 3rd meeting of the Durban Forum on Capacity-building at the Bonn Climate Change Conference on 12 June 2014. Alina’s presentation focused on the experience with engaging private sector in climate change mitigation programmes in developing countries, based on the analysis of the experience of the United Nations Development Programme’s Low Emission Capacity Building Programme. The analysis shows that while the importance of engaging the private sector into national mitigation programmes is recognised, there is still little practical experience with how to do it. So far engagement has been mainly limited to business associations or a small number of interested companies, with little involvement of finance and investor community. The presentation outlined practical recommendations for policy makers on how to approach private sector engagement.
