Climate Change Laws of the World data set - Terms of use
- Introduction
1.1 Welcome to the terms of use for the Climate Change Laws of the World Dataset (“CCLW Dataset”).
1.2 The CCLW Dataset is compiled and maintained by the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics (“We” or “LSE“). The Dataset consists of information about thousands of climate-related laws and policies gathered according to our methodology over the course of more than a decade, with the support of our partners including the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law at Columbia University. Specifically, it includes the summaries of laws and policies written by researchers at LSE, information about legislative processes in different countries, and a selection of metadata and classifications applied to this data.
1.3 The CCLW Dataset is part of the Climate Policy Radar Database. Users can access the CPR Database through the Climate Change Laws of the World website (climate-laws.org), as well as through the Climate Policy Radar website (app.climatepolicyradar.org).
1.4 The CPR Database and application is managed and operated by LSE’s partners, Climate Policy Radar CIC (“CPR”). Please see here the full terms of use here.
1.5 Users are encouraged to consult the CPR methodology and codebook to understand the relevant attribution for the current classifications and metadata available through the CPR Database and App. CPR and its partners, including LSE, are constantly evolving new classifications to support data users in understanding the landscape of global climate law and policy. - Using the CCLW dataset
2.1 We actively encourage and support the use of information from the CCLW Dataset for a wide range of purposes, including but not limited to academic and policy research, teaching, engagement and advocacy.
2.2 LSE, its collaborators, licensors, or authorised contributors own the copyright, database right and all other intellectual property rights (whether registered or unregistered and anywhere in the world) in the selection, coordination, arrangement and enhancement of the CCLW Dataset, as well as in the content original to it.
2.3 We are pleased to make the content of the CCLW Dataset available as open data under the Creative Commons Attribution Licence (CC-BY). Under this Creative Commons licence you are free to:
Share — copy and redistribute the CPR material in any medium or format
Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material
Licence terms: We will not revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the licence terms – see full legal code, which include but are not limited to these key issues:
a) Attribution — You must give LSE appropriate credit, provide a link to the licence, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use. See suggested citation below.
b) No additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the licence permits.
c) Exemptions and Limitations: You do not have to comply with the licence for elements of the material in the public domain or where your use is permitted by an applicable exception or limitation.
d) No warranties: The licence may not give you all of the permissions necessary for your intended use. For example, other rights such as publicity, privacy, or moral rights may limit how you use the material. - Recommended citation

3.3 When citing a specific data point(s), for example, if citing a summary of a document, please use the following citation:

Note: As of November 2022, all summaries in the CPR App were written by researchers at the Grantham Research Institute (as reflected on every document page). This section and recommended citation will be updated to reflect any changes to this. - Disclaimer
4.1 LSE gives no warranty or assurance about the content of the CCLW Dataset. As the CCLW Dataset is under constant development its contents may be incorrect or out-of-date and are subject to change without notice. While LSE makes every effort to ensure that the content of the CCLW Dataset is accurate, LSE cannot accept liability for the accuracy of its content at any given point in time. Any reliance that you may place on the information on the CCLW Dataset is at your own risk.
