In this talk, Dimitri Zenghelis presents the importance of the Paris accord in which it was agreed to limit the increase in global temperature. He further presents the reasons that make decarbonisation an urgent need, which are related to the concentration of the greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere and the consequences these have on annual GDP and productivity. The change towards decarbonisation is possible to happen since there is now the momentum for the world to turn to renewable sources of energy as the cost of these technologies has dropped dramatically. It is a fact that fossil flues companies have the money and the power to push decision makers towards the opposite direction to their benefit, however, the Paris accord and the benefits of turning to renewable sources of energy seem to make the transition unstoppable.
