Caitlin Douglas

Caitlin joined the Grantham Research Institute in July 2026 as a Policy Fellow in UK Adaptation. She supports the National Heat Risk Commission.

Background

Caitlin is an adaptation specialist with extensive experience translating complex evidence into clear, actionable insights for decision-makers across government, academia and industry. She combines analytical rigour with a user-centred approach to evidence development and a practical understanding of operational decision-making. She has considerable experience in knowledge brokering and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.

Previously, Caitlin was a Senior Analyst at the Climate Change Committee where she led multiple analytical and programme management workstreams. She also served as Climate Change Adaptation Expert Advisor at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, working closely with policy teams to ensure evidence informed strategic decision-making.

Before moving into policy, Caitlin held research and managerial roles in the Department of Geography at King’s College London, contributing to a range of environmental projects. Her expertise spans research methods to understand environmental change, tree ecology, nature-based solutions for flood risk reduction, UK food security, and the development and application of environmental intelligence to support decision-making.

Caitlin holds a BSc in Geography from the University of Victoria (Canada), an MSc in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management from the University of Oxford, and a PhD in Geography from King’s College London.
