Student staff roles at LSE offer the chance to develop valuable CV skills, gain professional experience, meet likeminded LSE students, and contribute to activities that support prospective students, schools, and visitors. All roles are paid at an hourly rate of £17.70.
Student ambassador roles
As a Student Ambassador, you will represent LSE at a wide range of in person and online activities, sharing first-hand insights, information and guidance with young people, their parents/carers, teachers and external partners.
As an Undergraduate Student Ambassador, you will be passionate about LSE and keen to share your experiences with young people, their parents/carers, teachers and advisors. There are various in-person and virtual roles that you can get involved in, including:
- supporting in the delivery of Widening Participation events including supervising and leading groups of school students and supporting presentations, discussions, and project work both on and off campus
- delivering campus tours
- working at LSE Open Days and other on-campus events
- supporting in the delivery of workshops and presentations
- representing LSE at off-campus events.
Postgraduate Student Ambassadors play a key supporting role across a variety of Student Recruitment events and activities. You will have the opportunity to promote LSE and graduate study opportunities to prospective postgraduate students from around the world.
You will support the delivery of LSE’s student recruitment events and activities including the facilitation of several in person and online events for prospective students, in activities such as:
- answering prospective students’ questions through Unibuddy
- acting as a panel member in online or in person Q&As
- leading campus tours
Student mentor and tutor roles
To support LSE's Widening Participation team, there are a number of mentoring and tutoring roles available to current students.
The LSE Widening Participation team run two sustained 18-month programmes collaboratively with the Sutton Trust – Pathways to Law and Pathways to Banking and Finance. LSE students are employed across two academic years to support the Year 12 and 13 students on these programmes, as Pathways Mentors.
LSE Thrive is a sustained 10-month access programme for Year 12 students of Black heritage who live in or close to London (approximately 90 minutes from the LSE campus) and are interested in applying to study at LSE. Thrive Mentors support events throughout the programme including campus visits and virtual sessions.
Future Maths is a programme for Year 8 girls who are high achieving in maths, but at risk of not reaching their full potential. Run in collaboration with Imperial College London, it aims to build confidence and attainment through tutoring and targeted workshops. Future Maths Tutors will deliver maths tutoring to a small group of students over a period of 9 weeks, with the opportunity to support at two additional workshops with the participating school pupils.
Content creator roles
We're proud of the LSE student experience and each year we recruit students to bring this to life. There are three different roles available in Recruitment and Admissions, with many departments also having departmental content creators.
As a Student Content Creator, you will be creating video content that depicts life at LSE for prospective students. You will be involved in:
- content creation (vlogs and social media campaigns),
- content strategy and planning, and
- collaborating with relevant stakeholders
As a Student Blogger, you will be writing for our Students@LSE blog, aimed at prospective students, to give them an insight into life at LSE - from academics to campus life and living in London. As a blogger, you can work flexibly, choosing which blog briefs to take on and pitching your own ideas. Each blog post is usually between 500 - 800 words.
Study Abroad Content Creators provide relevant and topical content to promote the General Course and GO LSE exchange programmes.
As a Study Abroad Content Creator we will expect you to be eager to contribute content for both the SRSA team and the School. You will have the opportunity to share your Study Abroad experiences with a vast online audience via multiple LSE channels.
Other on-campus roles
Student Recruitment and Study Abroad Office Assistants are essential to SRSA in providing a proactive and timely customer service to prospective students, answering their enquiries about studying at LSE and sharing their experiences. Office Assistants are expected to work 10 hours per week, with working hours being flexible to external commitments and service level demand.
The LSE Events Office is responsible for organising and hosting LSE’s public events programme. Our events are generally free and open to all, and take place on Monday to Thursday evenings during term time. Events Stewards assist with the set-up of the event; scanning tickets; seating the audience; clearing down after the event; and generally being friendly and helpful.
