11:30am (Yerevan local time, Armenia)

This roundtable brings together researchers and practitioners to discuss digital sequence information (DSI) from four angles: governance and law, data networks, traditional knowledge, property and human rights, and knowledge systems and innovation dynamics. It opens with a short, non-technical introduction to the “DSI life cycle,” tracing how digital sequence information moves from collection of biological material through sequence generation, storage in public databases, sharing and downstream use, using a common illustrative example throughout to show how these dimensions interact. Each speaker then presents the problem they studied, their approach, results and recommendations, relating their perspective back to the same example to highlight gaps and connections across domains. The session closes with an interactive segment inviting participants to reflect on the practical barriers they face in understanding, accessing or using DSI, and where the gaps between data, knowledge and policy limit progress.

Speakers: Agata Makowska-Curran (LSE/GRI). Full speaker list on the side event page below.
