What is The LSE Behavioural Lab (BL)?
We are a world-leading lab for behavioural insights and applications, based in the heart of London. With innovative expertise, state-of-the-art technology and a globally diverse pool of participants, we specialise in designing and running a wide range of behavioural studies, including randomised controlled trials, field experiments, lab studies, and online experiments.
We have a purpose-built facility equipped with advanced technologies and software, including eye-tracking, virtual reality, face and emotion recognition, and neuro-physiological measurement tools. Our lab has access to more than 4,500 active participants from 75 different countries for both in-person and online studies.
The BL is open to any department at LSE (and other institutions) and is co-hosted by the Department of Management and the Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science. We act as a one-stop-shop for everything behavioural at the LSE: in line with our 3-pronged "RCT" approach, we offer rigorous Research, evidence-based Consulting, and impactful Training. We regularly work with research institutions, international organisations, companies, governments, and NGOs across the world.
Researchers in the past have used the Lab to examine behaviour in various fields, such as behavioural economics, psychology, judgement and decision making, management, marketing, organisational behaviour, team dynamics, leadership, creativity, consumer choice, behavioural public policy, and behavioural game theory. Our mission is to provide state-of-the-art technologies and physical and online facilities for world-class behavioural Research, evidence-based Consulting, and impactful Training, including access to a unique and diverse participant pool suited to mapping decisions and behaviours and testing global interventions.
In line with the LSE mottos “to know the causes of things” “for the betterment of society”, we engage with researchers, organisations, donors and funders, globally, who are motivated to improve the world through better understanding of human behaviour.

The BL opened its doors in the highly uncertain times of the COVID-19 pandemics, at the end of 2019. The BL Steering Committee was set up to develop the new BL strategy and activities and ensure that standards and opportunities were developed to enhance scope and scale of research undertaken at the BL. That strategy is now in place and informs all operations.
