Prizes Awarded to Philosophy Students

2013/2014

The Andrea Mannu Prize UG for 2013/2014 was awarded to David Poole for best performance by an undergraduate in any degrees administered by the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method.

2012/2013

John Watkins Prize: Seamus Bradley. The Watkins Prize is given to an outstanding student working in an area related to the research interests of Professor John Watkins: philosophy of science, political philosophy, decision theory and philosophy of biology.

The Andrea Mannu Prize UG for 2012/2013 was awarded to Evelyn Tinker for best performance by an undergraduate in any degrees administered by the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method.

At Master’s level, MSc Philosophy of Science student Jacob Peter Neal was awarded the Imre Lakatos Prize, and MSc Philosophy and Public Policy student Fergus Green was awarded the Andrea Mannu Prize.

2011/2012

The Popper Prize, given for distinguished achievement in graduate work in an area of philosophy to which Karl Popper made significant contributions, was awarded to Susanne Burri for her paper 'The Fair Distribution of Bad Luck'.

At Master’s level, Annika Böddeling and Ian Cruise (both MSc in Philosophy and Public Policy) were jointly awarded the Andrea Mannu Prize. The Lakatos Prize was awarded to Alex Marcoci from the MSc Philosophy of Science.

The Andrea Mannu Prize UG for 2011/2012 was awarded to James Matharu for best performance by an undergraduate in any degrees administered by the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method.

2010/2011

Chlump Chatkupt was awarded an LSE PhD Scholarship by the university.

The Andrea Mannu Prize UG for 2010/2011 was awarded to Jonathon Gunn for best performance by an undergraduate in any degrees administered by the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method.

At Master’s level, Zhixiong Brian Sng from the MSc Philosophy of Science was awarded the Imre Lakatos Prize on the basis of his outstanding dissertation, whilst Blake Heller from the MSc Economics & Philosophy won the Andrea Mannu Prize on the basis of his outstanding overall performance.

The Departmental Teaching Prize was awarded to Ben Ferguson.

2009/2010

The Andrea Mannu Prize UG for 2009/2010 was awarded to Christopher Blunt for best performance by an undergraduate in any degrees administered by the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method.

John Watkins Prize: Foad Dizadji-Bahmani  

Awarded for his paper titled 'The Aharonov Approach to Equilibrium'. The Watkins Prize is given to an outstanding student working in an area related to the research interests of Professor John Watkins: philosophy of science, political philosophy, decision theory and philosophy of biology.

2008/2009

The Andrea Mannu Prize UG for 2008/2009 was awarded to Gangwei Zhuo for best performance by an undergraduate in any degrees administered by the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method.

The Andrea Mannu Prize MSc for 2008/2009 was awarded to Hlynur Orri Stefansson for the best performance by a masters student in any degrees administered by the department.

The Departmental Teaching Prize was awarded to Alice Obrecht.

The Imre Lakatos Prize for 2008/2009 was awarded to Femke Bolle for the best overall performance in MSc Philosophy and History of Science.

2007/2008

Dean Peters was awarded a PhD Studentship for the coming academic year (2008/2009).

The Andrea Mannu Prize UG for 2007/2008 was awarded to X Chen for best performance by an undergraduate in any degrees administered by the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method.

The Andrea Mannu Prize PG for 2007/2008 was awarded to Sebastian Koehler from the MSc in Philosophy of the Social Sciences. This was awarded for best overall performance in a Philosophy Masters related to the Social Sciences.

The Imre Lakatos Prize was not awarded this year.

The John Watkins Prize for 2007/2008 was awarded to Conrad Heilmann.

The Departmental Teaching Prize was awarded to Foad Dizadji-Bahmani.

2006/2007

The Andrea Mannu Prize UG for 2006/2007 was awarded to Samuel Blank for best performance by an undergraduate in any degrees administered by the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method.

The Andrea Mannu Prize PG for 2006/2007 was shared between Roberto Fumagalli and Timothy George Johnson from the MSc in Philosophy of the Social Sciences.

Roberto Fumagalli got the prize "for overall exam performance".

Timothy George Johnson got the prize "for best dissertation".

2005/2006

The Andrea Mannu Prize UG for 2005/2006 was awarded to Benjamin Richards for best performance by an undergraduate in any degrees administered by the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method.

The Andrea Mannu Prize PG for 2005/2006 was awarded to Jan Adriaenssens for best overall examination performance, including best dissertation, in MSc Philosophy of Social Sciences, MSc Economics and Philosophy, and MSc Philosophy, Policy and Social Value.

The Imre Lakatos Prize for 2005/2006 was awarded to Justin Bledin for best overall performance in MSc Philosophy and History of Science.

John Watkins Prize: Alice Obrecht

Awarded to an outstanding student working in an area related to the research interests of Professor John Watkins: philosophy of science, political philosophy, decision theory and philosophy of biology.

Popper Prize: Mauro Rossi for his essay 'Interpersonal Comparisons' and Peter Ainsworth for writing an outstanding paper on foundational issues in Quantum Mechanics.

For distinguished achievement in an area of philosophy to which Karl Popper made significant contributions.
