Year 1

Foundations of Management, Strategy and Financial Control

This integrated course explores the evolution of key management disciplines and their relationship to questions of financial control. Drawing from economics, psychology, and sociology, it offers a framework for understanding modern business in its historical and organisational context. Through lectures and case studies you'll apply key concepts whilst engaging with contemporary themes such as sustainability and social impact.

Managerial Economics

This course equips you with a range of tools to analyse how firms and consumers behave in markets. It'll introduce you to key microeconomic concepts. You'll learn how to make smarter business decisions by understanding market dynamics. You'll apply these insights directly through case-based class discussion and assessed work, as well as apply your learning back in the workplace.

Organisational Behaviour and Leadership

This course explores how individuals, teams, and organisations function, equipping you with psychological theories and practical tools for effective management. Through interactive sessions (conversations, group exercises, presentations), and course work, you'll apply course material to business problems and embed learning.

By the end of the course, you'll be able to critically evaluate key theories of organisational behaviour and apply them to issues in your organisation. You'll also reflect on your personal leadership style and its implications for working with others, assess core leadership skills, and explore how to foster positive, inclusive, sustainable organisational environments. Two diagnostic evaluations and an optional one-to-one coaching session support your leadership development journey. Profiles will be used to guide your leadership development.

Financial Management

This course offers a comprehensive overview of firms' financial decision making. Explore an applied and practical approach to finance to address topical issues that modern corporations face. Build on concepts in:

  • business strategy
  • valuation techniques
  • capital structure theories
  • mergers and acquisitions, and
  • initial public offerings.

Learn how to apply these tools in a systematic and rigorous way to real-life financial management problems.

Marketing Strategy

Marketing is ultimately about understanding and shaping behaviour. This course provides a rigorous examination of the key analytical frameworks, technical tools, and concepts that are essential to building an effective marketing strategy. Discuss the main theories and concepts in marketing management and how to apply these in a practical setting, including emerging techniques like how machine learning is changing how information on consumer preferences, their decision-making journeys, and their purchase behaviours is gathered and analysed. You'll develop an analytical toolkit that is applicable to a wide range of industries and functions.
