Offer Holder FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions...

Congratulations on receiving an offer in the Department of Statistics at LSE. If you can't find the answer you are looking for here, then please email us at statistics@lse.ac.uk and we will try and help you!

What does a 'Conditional offer' mean?

If you haven’t already, you would find it helpful to look at the LSE Undergraduate Offer Guide 2025 and this useful Undergraduage offer holder information page

What happens if I fail to meet the conditions of my offer?

If you marginally fail to meet the conditions of your offer, your application is automatically referred back to the Admissions Selector for reconsideration in August. Your application is then considered in competition with all the other applicants who have marginally failed to meet the conditions of their offer. There is no guarantee that LSE will be able to confirm your place at the School.

We will send our decision to UCAS as soon as possible, so please do not contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office as it may delay the processing of your application.

When do I need to reply to my offer?

Once you have received decisions from all of your choices, you will be given a date in UCAS Hub by which you need to reply. Please refer to the guidance on the UCAS website.

Can I study part-time?

Please note that there is no part time mode of study at Undergraduate level in the Department of Statistics.

How do I contact LSE Accomodation?

Any queries about accommodation are answered by the LSE Accommodation Office. Therefore we would advise to contact the Accommodation Office for further support and information.

You are advised to make an early application. Visit LSE Accommodation to discover more and to apply.

I have changed my correspondence address, what shall I do?

Please notify UCAS and the institutions to which you have applied of your new address in writing as soon as possible. Please note that if you have indicated your term-time address in the correspondence address section of the UCAS application form, do not assume that all correspondence will be automatically sent to your home address once term finishes. You should notify UCAS and the institutions as soon as you leave your term-time address so that all correspondence can be sent to the correct address.

Do I meet the English Language Requirements?

You can find out here whether you meet our English language requirements.

How do I apply for my visa?

You can apply for your visa up to six months before your programme begins if you are applying overseas and up to three months in advance if you are eligible to apply in the UK.

You will only be able to apply for your visa when you have received your CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) number from us to complete your Student visa application.

LSE can only issue your CAS once you have:

• firmly accepted your unconditional offer
• completed your Financial Undertaking Form (FUF)
• confirmed to us your passport details, including all of your official names as shown in your passport, the correct spelling and the order that they appear in on your passport.

Please note: Even if you have met the above conditions, due to technical reasons, we will be unable to begin issuing CAS' until May/June at the earliest.

It is important that you read the visa information for prospective students on the Student Advice and Engagement Team website.

When do I need to pay tuition fees?

Offer holders can pay their fees as soon as they have their offer. If you have not paid in full before or at registration then you will be placed on a termly Payment Plan. You will be expected to pay 1/3 of your fees on each payment date. Please see the information here.

Can I visit the campus?

Our Offer Holder Day takes place in April. There are also other opportunities to Visit LSE, including campus tours and drop-in consultations.

You can also experience LSE wherever we are in the world, through our Virtual Undergraduate Offer Holder Day.

Can I defer my place?

If you wish to defer your entry, you will need to submit a  request to the Undergraduate Admissions Office by 31 July at the latest. Your email needs to state your reasons for your request and what you plan to do on your gap year. The Admissions Selector will then consider your request and you will be contacted once a decision has been made. Should your request be granted, your UCAS record will then be changed to reflect your change of year.

We aim to respond to all deferral requests as quickly as possible.

If your request for deferral is refused, your offer is still valid for 2025.

LSE does not offer the option of a two year deferral, unless the applicant has extenuating circumstances preventing them from beginning their programme in 2025 or 2026. Please note that compulsory National Service is not considered as an extenuating circumstance for two year deferral requests.

How do I respond to the offer at LSE?

This webpage has lots of useful information on responding to your offer from LSE.

Once you have received decisions from all of the institutions you have applied to, you will need to choose which institutions and programmes you wish to make your firm and insurance choices and which offers you will be declining.

UCAS information on deadlines and responding to your offers

If you do not respond to your offers by the relevant deadline given on the UCAS website, then your offer(s) will be declined by default by UCAS. You would then have 14 days in which to contact UCAS to ask them to reinstate your offer(s). Unfortunately LSE will not be able to reinstate offers once the 14 day deadline has passed.

How do I submit transcripts?

Submitting certified copies of qualifications is a very useful webpage to look at.

Undergraduate Admissions are unable to confirm receipt of, or verify, hard-copies of documents that are sent by post. They ask that you send all relevant documents electronically.

Admissions will often request officially certified copies of your qualifications as part of your offer.

Admissions are usually able to verify certain forthcoming qualifications via UCAS (such as summer 2025 IB, A-level, Pre-U, Scottish Higher and Singapore H2 A-level results) provided that your school has arranged for us to receive these via this method.

If Admissions require proof of any previously achieved qualifications, this will be stated on your offer letter, e.g. "Please provide certified documentation of your 2025 Mathematics A-level".

It is vital that Admissions receive official certification of your qualifications. Failure to provide them with these can result in a delay in making your offer unconditional.

For administrative reasons, Admissions will only process submissions of all types of qualifications for those who have made us their Firm choice on UCAS.

When is enrolment?

Enrolment for new students will take place in September. Enrolment is compulsory for new students. We'll check your eligibility to study and give you your LSE card. Further information about Enrolment will be provided closer to the time.
