10 Year Anniversary

As we approach 2026, we are proud to celebrate an important milestone, the 10th anniversary of the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa. Over the past decade, the Institute has become a vital hub of rigorous research, teaching, and policy engagement on Africa.

Our long-lasting and continued impact is found in the 1,000 graduates of the Programme for African Leadership who are creating positive change and leading with confidence, creativity, and empathy across the continent. Our impact is also found in our research communities who have brought intellectual rigour to the most pressing matters affecting African countries and beyond. It also marks ten years of LSE’s commitment to bringing the African perspective to the School.

In honour of this decade of achievement, FLIA will be highlighting and celebrating on our website and newsletters the many dynamic thinkers who have contributed to the intellectual life of the Institute. We will also be telling the stories of our Programme for African Leadership alumni who are now leaders and change makers within their communities.

Our 10th year anniversary celebrations will culminate in an in-person evening event at the LSE on 21 May 2026. The event will host performances from our Creatives in Residence, a speech from LSE President, Professor Larry Kramer, and a panel discussion with current students and alumni discussing the impact of the Programme for African Leadership and how the programme can support students to chart new directions to tackle local and global issues. The event will serve as an opportunity to reflect on the Institute’s storied history while also discussing new opportunities for impact.
