About me

Suraina Pasha received her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from the University of Sydney in May 2019. Drawing on multi-sited fieldwork in refugee camps and content analysis of humanitarian policy and news reports, her thesis critically analysed the politics of securitised humanitarianism in the official response to displaced Syrians in Jordan. In addition to finalising publications based on her thesis, she has commenced new comparative research into secular vis-a-vis post-secular conceptions of rights and social justice, looking initially at the politics surrounding the issue of veiling of Muslim women in liberal Anglo-European States. Prior to her transition to academia she worked in the human rights and humanitarian fields nationally and regionally in Australia, Malaysia, Asia and the Middle East.
