Welcome new School of Public Policy students

This September, the LSE School of Public Policy (SPP) proudly welcomed over 300 new students to our community. Representing 55 nationalities and a wide spectrum of academic disciplines—including economics, law, finance, social sciences, international relations, and engineering—our newest cohort brings a truly global perspective to the SPP classroom.
Our students also arrive with diverse professional backgrounds, from recent graduates to professionals with over 25+ years of experience with expertise spanning governance, law, consultancy, financial services, the military, healthcare and technology.
The impact of this diverse learning environment was clear to see throughout welcome activities including a special panel event focused on ‘Policy Challenges in this Brave New World’ where students joined expert faculty and could draw on their unique experiences to fuel rich classroom discussions and peer-to-peer learning.
This year we were thrilled to welcome the third cohort of MPA in Data Science for Public Policy students, who kicked off our welcome activities with their data and programming bootcamp in early September. Over the course of the two-year programme, the group of 28 students—representing 17 nationalities—will focus on harnessing data to drive innovation in public policy.
Our Master of Public Administration (MPA) students have also embarked on their rigorous two-year journey, combining academic depth with practical, real-world experience. They were greeted by second-year MPA students, who offered valuable insights into student life through campus tours and networking events.
The MPA double degree students began their first year at LSE SPP and will continue their studies at one of our distinguished partner institutions—the University of Toronto’s Munk School or Columbia SIPA—in their second year. We are equally delighted to welcome those joining us for their second year after completing their first at Sciences Po.
Our executive students commenced their first module at LSE SPP, guided by the new EMPA/EMPP programme directors, Dr Ali Cirone and Professor Adnan Khan.
Finally, our Master of Public Policy (MPP) students—representing 35 nationalities and a diverse range of professional backgrounds—began their nine-month programme with an introduction led by MPP Programme Director Dr Simon Bastow.
Welcome to all of our new and returning students and we look forward to seeing you develop as you embrace the journey ahead, engage with expert faculty and practitioners, learn from your peers, make connections for life and make the most of your time at LSE SPP!
