About
Technology and International Affairs
To identify trends and developments in the world of technology and examine their implications for international relations.
The pace of technological change is impacting the nature and conduct of international relations. At the core of this “technological revolution” are a set of complex, compelling, and possibly troubling developments that are reshaping power, security, and governance at the international level. Understanding the interplay between technological change and international politics will allow us to better grasp how the international system will be impacted as the information age matures.
The Technology and International Affairs project at LSE IDEAS examines these dynamics through three research clusters. Each cluster brings together research, publications, and experts to address critical questions at the intersection of technology and international affairs, further building on the work previously done by the LSE IDEAS’s Digital International Relations project.
The project also contributes directly to global debates around the topic. Beginning with India’s G20 Presidency in 2023, the project continues to participate and contribute to discussions at platforms like the UN, EU, and others.
Finally, the project also collaborates with a range of external partners on funded research and events. For example, in partnership with META, the team organised a series of roundtables on topics such as disinformation and cybercrime, advancing both academic understanding and policy impact. These collaborations strengthen the project’s ability to shape international debate and inform decision-making at the highest levels.
