Are you interested in supporting our fantastic public events programme?

The European Institute (EI) and School of Public Policy (SPP) are seeking event stewards to support the busy events programme across both departments. This role is open to EI and SPP students only.

Packed audience at LSE event

About the role

This role primarily involves working with public events, Monday – Thursday evenings during term time. Shifts will generally range from 1.5 – 3 hours, starting between 5 and 5.30pm.

Most stewards will work roughly one shift per week, but we cannot guarantee a certain number of hours per week because this depends on how busy the events programmes are at any one time.

The responsibilities of the role include:

  • Setting up and packing down the event
  • Scanning tickets
  • Seating the audience
  • Assisting with online elements of events, such as zoom webinars

Flexibility is essential. There will be some daytime work, and stewards may sometimes be asked to perform administrative tasks.

We are seeking candidates with:

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A friendly and enthusiastic approach to customer service
  • Ability to adapt and respond proactively to problems
  • Excellent time management skills
You must be a current EI or SPP student and able to commit to working for at least the full academic year 2025/26.

Pay and Hours

  • Band 3 - £18.91 per hour (including holiday pay accrued per hour worked).
  • Most shifts will be during term time, with the occasional shifts during holiday periods (such as conferences).
  • You will be expected to work regularly during term time, but you will sign up for shifts based on your availability.
This role is suitable for someone seeking some occasional additional funds. Because we cannot guarantee regular hours on a weekly basis, it is not suitable for someone who needs a consistent and reliable source of income during their studies.

How to apply

Applications will open from Monday 1 September, 9am (BST) and close on Friday 5 September, 6pm (BST).

If you are an EI student, please follow the steps below to apply:

  1. Complete this form.
  2. Once you have completed the form, please send your CV to ei.events@lse.ac.uk.

SPP students should see guidance from their department for applications.
