What was your PhD thesis?

Analysis of military influence on rights-based policies in post-conflict contexts.

What has your job trajectory been since graduating?

I completed my PhD as a part-time candidate whilst serving in the army. Initially on graduation, in March 2016, I worked on Professional Military Education at the Irish Defence Forces Military College, where I oversaw the design and introduction of a new masters-level Joint Command & Staff Course.

In early 2019, I left the army to join DCAF-The Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance to lead their Security Sector reform project in the Gambia. At the end of 2019, I accepted a position with the OECD where I now work on crises and fragility as lead coordinator for the States of Fragility report OECD States of Fragility.

How did the PhD at the EI help you get into your sector?

My PhD research was seen as addressing a gap in knowledge regarding how security actors interact with humanitarian, development and political actors in conflict-affected settings.
