About

Dr Marina Cino Pagliarello is a researcher and policy analyst specialising in European public policy, higher education governance, and knowledge diplomacy. With extensive experience at the intersection of academia, policymaking, and consultancy, her work examines how universities and transnational alliances act as non-state actors in European and global governance, particularly in contexts of geopolitical crisis and international cooperation.

She was Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at the European University Institute, where she led the Higher Education Informal Diplomacy (HEIDI) project and developed the HEIDI Dataset, the first comparative survey of its kind on European University Alliances and their role in informal diplomacy and transnational cooperation. She has previously held academic positions at the LSE, UCL, Queen Mary University of London, the University of Essex, and the University of Strathclyde. Her monograph Ideas and European Education Policy (1975–2020) was published by Palgrave Macmillan, and her research has appeared in journals including the Journal of Public Policy, Regulation & Governance, and West European Politics.

Beyond academia, she has led numerous education policy and evaluation projects for organisations such as the European Commission, the European Training Foundation, the British Council, and the UK Government. She is currently a Senior Research Associate at LSE Consulting and an Honorary Lecturer at University College London (UCL). At the LSE European Institute, she also contributes to the public engagement work of GLOPE, a Jean Monnet Chair project, supporting its Global Dialogues on Europe and outreach to international audiences. Marina holds a PhD and an MRes from the LSE European Institute, an MSc in Economics of Arts and Culture from SDA Bocconi, and a Laurea in Modern History from the University of Pisa.
