Prizes

The Department's Sub-boards of Examiners award a number of prizes each year for outstanding academic achievement. Prizewinners are notified by the Department once examination results are released. We invite winners and their guest(s) to join us in the Department on Graduation Day to receive their prizes and celebrate.

Undergraduate prizes

Cyril Offord Prize

This prize is awarded by the Departmental Sub-board of Examiners annually for outstanding performance in BSc Financial Mathematics and Statistics, BSc Mathematics and Economics, BSc Mathematics with Economics or BSc Mathematics, Statistics and Business. Farr Prize

This prize is awarded by the Departmental Sub-board of Examiners from Mathematics and Statistics for the best performance in final year examinations for a BSc student in the Departments of Mathematics or Statistics. See more information.

Institute of Mathematics and its applications (IMA) prizes

These prizes, provided by the IMA, are awarded by the Departmental Sub-board of Examiners for outstanding performance in the final year of an IMA approved course.

Wynne-Roberts prizes

These prizes, provided by the University of London Convocation, are awarded by the Departmental Sub-board of Examiners for the best performance in first and second year mathematics courses by a student in the Department of Mathematics. See more information and previous prizewinners.

Joseph Abraham prize

This is awarded annually by the Departmental Sub-board of Examiners for best performance on the MSc Finanical Mathematics. See more information and previous prizewinners.

Haya Freedman prize

This is awarded annually by the Departmental Sub-board of Examiners for best dissertation from a student on MSc Applicable Mathematics. See more information and previous prizewinners.

Ailsa Land prize

This is awarded annually by the Departmental Sub-board of Examiners for best overall performance by a student on MSc Operations Research & Analytics. See more information and previous prizewinners.

Research Student Prizes

The Department of Mathematics’ PhD Prize for Outstanding Academic Performance

Awards will be made once per academic year, in the following December, with a view to presenting the award during the winter graduation festivities.  This is awarded annually by a departmental panel. See more information and previous prizewinners.

The John Ying Wah Gibson Citizenship Prize

Awarded by the Department of Mathematics to a student of good academic achievement who demonstrates strong service to society and the LSE community generally. One prize of £500 will be awarded annually. See here for more information on prize and prizewinners.

The John Ying Wah Gibson Voluntary Work Award
