LSE offers undergraduate students the opportunity to spend a full academic year at any ten New York University Global Sites.

The program offers 20 places. PPE students are able to select this destination. This destination is not available to students pursuing the CIVICA Engage Track.

Applicants must be in their second year and must return to LSE after the year abroad to complete their degree.

To be eligible for consideration, you must have an overall average of 60% or above from all of your first year courses. Applicants with individual module scores under 60% will be considered, as long as the overall average grade is 60% or above.

As part of your application, you must provide your marks from your first year modules at LSE and the name and contact details of one academic referee. Your referee can be any academic member of staff from your department at LSE.

Tuition Fees: GO LSE students are not required to pay any tuition fees to the host institution in order to participate in the exchange programme. Students will continue to pay tuition fees directly to LSE. For further information, please visit our fees and funding webpage.

Mandatory Fees: Some mandatory NYU fees may apply.

Cost of Living: The cost of living across the various NYU Global sites vary, students are advised to undertake research and budget accordingly.

Health Insurance: NYU requires students to have health insurance coverage; options available for purchase through the university.

Clubs & Associations: Various clubs and organisations covering academic, cultural, and social interests.

Studying Abroad at NYU Prague was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and maybe will ever make. I was not sure whether I wanted to take a year abroad when I first joined university, but I cannot be more glad that I did, and I cannot be more glad that I chose NYU Prague. The staff were exceptional in every way, and I became good friends with them all as well as the students. Living in such a magical city is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I would have regretted it every day if I had not taken it. The endless trips across Europe, the new and unique courses (such as photography!), and the friends I made have changed me for the better. I am so lucky that I got this opportunity.

My time abroad at NYU Madrid was nothing short of life-changing. It was the exact change of environment and community that I needed. The social life in particular was a highlight and it really helped that I stayed in a dorm. I also took on board a Peer Mentor fellowship as a student leadership position which was great in throwing me in the deep end and allowed for me to have a immersion fast-paced and unique experience from the get go. The other students were so lovely and social and I think this was because NYU Madrid was a study abroad site as well so although they knew some people from the NYC campus we were all generally in the same boat in that we were new to the NYU Madrid campus and the cohort which we were studying abroad with which made it very easy to integrate socially and make meaningful friends without having to put in extra effort or feel like I am trying to join existing friendship groups which in itself can be intimidating. The Student Life team in particular are wonderful and supportive and it really does feel like a family very quickly. One thing I would note is that the majority of NYU students study abroad for only 1 semester so it was particularly sad for me to say goodbye to everyone in the Fall and have to do the whole Orientation process again and get to know a whole knew cohort, especially because I made such deep and special friendships the first semester that I was convinced nothing could compare and was very apprehensive during winter break about going back. However, it turned out that I ended up making another group of friends which admittedly were completely different in vibe and personality but it was an fulfilling semester, if not more and it helped me explore new sides of myself. At the same time having that string foundation from the friendships I formed in the first semester was wonderful and I kept in contact with them regularly and one of my friends came to visit Madrid again during her Spring break because she missed it so much and I myself was able to go to New York and I stayed with my friends that I had made in the Fall and visited the main campus and had a reunion with everyone from the Fall in NYC which coincided with my birthday actually so it was very special! An extra thing that I didn't expect was how much there would be a travel culture as the majority of students are travelling to a new place every weekend and maximising their time in Europe. I had a different perspective being from Europe, financial considerations and also just a personal preference of wanting to soak in Madrid to the fullest extent. But I was able to join on a few trips here and then which was a good sweet spot for me. Overall NYU Madrid gave me such a special experience and community that I never was able to personally experience at LSE. I will miss my study abroad on Madrid every day but I am also looking forward to coming back to LSE for my final year with this fresh perspective!

My year abroad was arguably one of the best experiences in my life! It was the first time living more than an hour away from home, and seven hours by plane to be specific! This gave me a newfound confidence and independence: I now feel comfortable living in new cities, making new friends and talking to strangers. It has also opened my eyes to new cultures; New York is a uniquely international city and I had the privilege of meeting people from all walks of life who had moved here. Being given an additional year to my degree enabled me to take the time to appreciate being a student in New York, and I wouldn't have afforded it if it hadn't been for the Turing Funding given to me by LSE GO Abroad. The flexibility to take classes outside of my degree (Data Science) allowed me to stretch myself academically. I re-discovered my passion for English Literature, and stepped outside my comfort zone by taking a Hollywood Film at the infamous Tisch School of Arts. New York will always have a special place in my heart, and I am grateful to have secured a summer internship here where I hope to establish a career in the city.
