Future Maths Programme: Year 8

Maths attainment raising and enrichment programme

[My tutor] was so supportive and understanding when I... faced challenges. She explained the problems with a lot of detail so I fully understood it... I am really grateful to her and her help.

When and where does the scheme run?

Future Maths is delivered to targeted pupils in year 8 at one of our two partner schools, Barking Abbey School and The John Roan School. (Imperial College London works with its own partner schools.)

In 2025-26, the programme will include:

  • A visit to Imperial College London campus – November 2025
  • Weekly tutoring sessions delivered at the pupils’ schools – spring term 2026
  • A Maths workshop delivered at the pupils’ schools – May 2026
  • A visit to LSE campus – July 2026

What activities are included?

Tutoring

Pupils will take part in 9 weeks of small group Maths tutoring from trained LSE undergraduate tutors. Tutors will deliver sessions that are tailored to cover specific Maths topics that support needs. Prior to the tutoring, parents and carers will have the opportunity to attend an information session.

Enrichment activities

Future Maths will include three main enrichment events throughout the year. The first event will take place at Imperial College London where pupils will participate in STEM-focused activities and gain an introduction to higher education. After the completion of tutoring, pupils will take part in an interactive Maths workshop delivered at their school. Finally, pupils will visit LSE for workshops focused on Maths-related pathways and a celebration of their time on the programme.
