Bankside House is located in the historic borough of Southwark on the Thames’ South Bank. A walk along the river will take you to the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tate Modern and the South Bank Arts Centre, as well as the famous Borough Market.

Who can book at Bankside House?
Undergraduate students first, but if we still have rooms available in late summer, we open Bankside House to a small number of graduate students, too.

Catering and kitchens
Bankside House is a catered hall. Six evening meals and one brunch are included in your rent during term time. Catering is not provided during the vacation periods. For menus and meal times see Catering in LSE halls.
Shared snack point kitchens are on each floor and are open 24hrs. For details of what's in the kitchen, see What we provide in each hall [PDF].

What's included in the rent?
Six dinners and one brunch per week in term-time, Wi-Fi, insurance and utility bills. Also includes common room activities and portable appliance testing. Meals are not served during the Christmas and Easter break, but the cost is spread over the full stay.

  • card operated laundry and ironing room - a wash costs £2.80 and a dry £1.40  
  • optional room cleaning service from £15.00
  • personal fridge £20 per term, £60 for the whole academic year. If you do wish to bring a small fridge to the hall to keep in your room, you will need to pay these charges.

Congestion Charge and Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ)

Bankside House is inside London’s Congestion Charge/Ultra Low Emission Zone area.

If you drive to Bankside House on weekdays you need to pay the Congestion Charge. Visit: Congestion Charge
