Join us for a public event with Gabriel Oddone, Minister of Economy and Finance of Uruguay, in conversation with Andrés Velasco, Dean of the LSE School of Public Policy.

Meet our speaker and chair

Gabriel Oddone (@OddoneGabriel) is a Uruguayan economist, professor and consultant, appointed Uruguay’s Minister of Economy and Finance in March 2025 by President Yamandú Orsi. His work has focused on economic policy and finance, including consulting for institutions such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank. He has also held advisory roles in both public and private sectors. In addition, he is an important figure in Uruguay’s Broad Front political coalition.

Andrés Velasco (@AndresVelasco) is Professor of Public Policy and Dean of the School of Public Policy at LSE. In 2017-19 he was a member of the G20 Eminent Persons Group. During 2015-16 he co-chaired the Global Panel on the Future of the Multilateral Lending Institutions. In 2013-16 he was a member of the Global Oceans Commission.
