We’re pleased to announce a series of innovative online offer holder events for undergraduate and taught master’s students, to take place over the coming weeks.

Along with the closure of campus, the postponement of events and the move to online teaching and assessment, another sad consequence of the current situation has been the cancellation of our offer holder events. Around this time each year we usually invite those who’ve received offers to campus to attend sample lectures and spend time socialising with faculty and with each other. We look forward to hosting these events, but unfortunately, due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, they will not take place this year as planned.

However, all is not lost. Like so many of our usual social interactions, LSE Philosophy’s offer holder events will now take place online!

For our future undergraduates

Our undergraduate offer holders will find a wealth of information on LSE’s Virtual Undergraduate Offer Holders’ Day pages, including videos, FAQs and the School’s full online events programme. They will also find a dedicated Philosophy page that brings together a selection of our resources particularly suited to those joining our BSc degrees next year, including recordings from previous offer holder talks, student vlogs and links to our faculty research pages and student journal. These resources will be regularly updated and can be accessed at any time.

We’re also excited to announce that on 6 May we will be hosting an online event via Zoom where offer holders will get chance to meet one another, meet current students from our three undergraduate programmes and ask any questions they may have about their future studies. Hosted by four members of our academic faculty – Dr Anna MahtaniDr Campbell Brown, Dr Laurenz Hudetz and Dr Johanna Thoma – this event will provide the perfect opportunity for next year’s students to find out about becoming part of LSE Philosophy, from wherever they are in the world.

For our future MSc students

With our MSc programmes attracting a global pool of talented applicants, we’ve often found it difficult to organise events for our taught master’s offer holders. But with challenges come opportunities and we’re pleased to have been able to schedule a series of online events aimed specifically at those who’ve been offered places on our MSc programmes. These events will take place on Zoom on Thursday 30 April and Friday 1 May and will be repeated throughout the day to make it easier for those in different time zones to attend. Hosted by Associate Professor Dr Bryan Roberts, these events will be both social and academic, and will give those who’ve received offers a chance to socialise, ask questions and get a sense of our distinctive approach to philosophy.

Everybody who’s received an offer to enrol on one of our MSc programmes has already been given access to the MSc offer holder section of our website (password-protected). These pages already contain links to the most useful resources for MSc offer holders, as well as an ongoing series of blog posts written especially for those planning to enrol with us in the Autumn, and over the coming weeks this will be expanded to include videos, audio, reading lists and sample lectures. So watch this space!

We appreciate that it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the uncertainty at the moment, but we hope that these new online resources will help our future students to feel connected to the Department and reassured of their choice to study with us, no matter what form that ultimately takes.
