Thesis: 'The Politics of Visibility: The Impact of Online Influence Operations on Local Politician Responsiveness and Citizen Mobilization in Indonesia'

Siregar’s PhD thesis aims to examines how organized digital visibility shapes political attention and substantive government responsiveness in Indonesia, and secondarily how citizen mobilization is also affected. It focuses on whether coordinated online amplification of public demands can be used as an accountability tool to change what elected officials notice, prioritize, and act upon beyond the effect of simply providing them with the underlying information. The project is centred on a randomized field experiment with local legislators, using real-world budget deliberation to test how amplified political signals translate into demand-congruent legislative action.
