About me

Dr Ahmed Bin-Touq is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and Urban Sustainability, United Arab Emirates University (UAEU). Bin-Touq's areas of expertise include participatory GIS and Smart Cities. His current research project is concerned with the benefits of participatory GIS in Smart Government.

Bin-Touq is also interested in higher education leadership topics in the GCC region. During his career at UAE University, he was a member of the University Council and Director of the National Faculty Development office. In 2014, he was on sabbatical for a year at the Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies (CURDS) based in the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology at Newcastle University. He worked on research projects assessing spatial public participation for the United Arab Emirates E-Government.

Bin-Touq is the Executive Director of the International Urban Dynamics Research Group (IUDRG), United Arab Emirates University since 2012. IUDRS develops collaborative interdisciplinary research projects on urban futures. Currently, he is a board member at the GCC Geographical Society.

He earned his Ph.D. in Economic Geography with emphasis on Geographic Information Systems, and Urban Planning in 2009 from Indiana State University, USA.
