Co-director of the Global Surgery Policy Unit; Associate Professor of Health Policy and Deputy Director of LSE Health.

Dr Friebel specialises in the economics of health system delivery and healthcare regulation aimed at improving quality of care.

Miss Rachel Hargest

Co-director of the Global Surgery Policy Unit; Clinical Senior Lecturer in Colorectal Surgery; Member of the Cardiff China Medical Research Collaborative.

Miss Hargest is a Colorectal Surgeon practicing mostly at the University Hospital of Wales and has supervised numerous PhD and MD students.

Dr Martilord Ifeanyichi

Assistant Professorial Research Fellow, Global Surgery Policy Unit; Medical Doctor; Health Systems Economist; Pharmacoeconomist.

Dr Ifeanyichi’s interests lie in economics and dynamic complexities of surgical systems in low and middle-income countries.

Dr Meskerem Kebede

Research Officer, Global Surgery Policy Unit; Medical Doctor.

Dr Meskerem is passionate about strengthening surgical systems in low and middle-income countries with a special interest in Health Workforce Development in East Africa.

Maeve Bognini

Research Assistant, Global Surgery Policy Unit; Operations Assistant at LSE Health.

Maeve’s interests lie in Global Surgery Policy, International Health Policy and Clinical Outcome. Her work has included researching strategies to strengthen global surgery and ensure that patients around the world can access high-quality surgical care when they need it.
